History

The name of the village is Thagarakuppam. In Tamil, this name is translated to mean “village made of cheap metal.” This name often provokes laughter among the Tamil people– for what good could come out of cheap metal? Indeed, where once the world thought “What good could come out of Nazareth?”, we learned otherwise through the life of Jesus Christ. In reality, this is a village whose youngest generation resembles unpolished diamonds – with great potential to shine and enlighten the world around them.

LOGOS VISION TRUST (LVT) is a Christian ministry to the poor and needy in villages and slum areas of the State of Tamil Nadu in the southern region of India. It was founded in 1994 by Dr. Mrs. Emma (a physician) and Mr. Arasu Rajaratnam (a Mechanical engineer). The trust was designed as a multifaceted ministry to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the people of this tiny corner of southern India. The ministry is located at Logos Vision Center, a multi purpose building in Thagarakuppam which is approximately 16 kilometers away from the nearest town, Ranipet - located on the Chennai Bengaluru Highway, approximately 130 kilometers Tamil Nadu’s capital city, Chennai. The LVC building serves as a hub of activity: an English coaching school and a Community center for other activities.

The villages of rural TN have a tremendous, unmet need for education, medical care, and vocational training/job skills training for adults. Poverty, illiteracy and unemployment keep many people in hopeless situations. The lack of adequate education and job skills to meet the modern job market leave many men and women unemployed.

In June 2007, the dream to develop an English medium school for the rural kids of Thagarakuppam and the surrounding villages was realized. Beginning with twenty eight children in lower kindergarten, the school has grown to one hundred and twenty eight children ranging from LKG to STD III.  Its faculty currently consists of one principal and six teachers.

The school was named HANNAH NURSERY AND PRIMARY SCHOOL. The children of Hannah school are the first generation of learners in an ENGLISH medium school. In fact, they are often the first generation in their families to attend school. Parents in the surrounding villages are primarily daily wage earners whose existence is dependent upon agriculture, subsidized by the incense sticks making industry.
